At the Y, our hearts, hands, and focus are on supporting the community we serve in its recovery from the devastation of Hurricane Florence.

Since the storm, the Y has served as a community comfort station with hot showers for community members as well as Temple Baptist Church rescue workers. We provided a place to sleep for All Hands and Hearts volunteers, staging space for Duke Energy, and activity space for kids from Easter Seals. The Y gave parents the opportunity to have a safe space for their children by providing full day care for our After School kids following the storm.

In response to the impact our community has been faced with, the Eastern Carolina Young Men's Christian Association has established a local relief fund to support those who were affected by Hurricane Florence. At this time our biggest needs for contributions are:

  • To support local Y members, staff and program participants who have lost their homes and belongings
  • To provide funding so the Y can offer low-cost, fincancial-need-based services, including Child Care, to families affected by the storm
