Meet the Trainers

Lucas Jordan

I was born in Gaithersburg, MD, and raised in central Florida. I became interested in the health and fitness industry when a few of my family members passed away from cardiovascular heart disease. I was not exercising or eating well which unfortunately my relatives suffered through this lifestyle behavior.

I took my studies through the University of Central Florida as an undergraduate for health and fitness. I graduated with a bachelor's degree in 2008 and wanted to pursue my education. I attended an online graduate degree through Arizona Still University in human movement. If anybody asks what human movement is, well I study how the body moves in all directions relating to sport or activities of daily living. I graduated through ATSU in 2013 with a Master's Degree in Human Movement.

I am certified through the American College of Sports Medicine as a personal trainer.  This is a more clinical and health based certification dealing with populations that have certain risk factors such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol etc. I make sure the individual gets an exercise program that fits their needs based on the risk factors listed above.

My other specialties are group exercise classes. I love to teach participants how to make exercise fun! I love to cycle, run, and play basketball. I make time for those who want to change their lifestyle habits.

I hold a Bachelor’s of Science in Exercise Science with minor focuses in Dance and Nutrition from Middle Tennessee State University.  I am a certified Prenatal and Postnatal Fitness Specialist through American Fitness Professionals & Associates (AFPA), a certified SilverSneakers instructor, and a licensed Zumba instructor.   My passion has always been dance-centric, and through dance lessons and competing ondance teams in high school, I learned the importance of physical fitness.  The excitement of combining dance and fitness is what motivated me to study Exercise Science in college, during which I found particular interest in women’s fitness and how it relates to pregnancy.  I enjoy working and teaching group fitness classes at the YMCA and am excited for the opportunity to help women obtain their fitness goals before, during, and after pregnancy.

Megan Larson

I’m a NASM certified personal trainer. I joined the YMCA team in November and along with personal training, I also instruct the Monday night HIIT class. You could say I started my fitness journey early on with sports like tennis, swimming, and soccer but my real passion started over the last few years and particularly within the last year when I trained to compete in the NPC state bodybuilding competition as a bikini competitor. I’m a firm believer in shocking the body through different workouts and love high intensity, plyometric, and strength training. I push my clients to train to their full potential no matter their skill level. Whether you want to lose fat, build muscle, or just get a good workout in – I can put together a personalized workout for you!

CJ Fryar

I've been a personal trainer for 3 years and certified through Interactive Fitness Trainers of America. I have a Bachelor’s degree from Elizabeth City State University in Aquatics and Fitness. I was influenced to become a personal trainer when I went from 250 lbs to 185 lbs in a matter of months. I wanted to be able to reach out to others and let them know that they can do it! My motto is "GET RIGHT" my training style is constant motion. I believe in getting that blood flow pumping and getting you sweaty. Feel free to come talk to me, I'm all arms. Excuse me, I mean ears.

I am a certified personal trainer and  group exercise instructor with 25 years experience.   Recently retired from the teaching profession, I continue to work in the fitness industry teaching classes and training individual clients.  I have experience working with members who require modifications as well as those who desire core training with an emphasis on posture and balance.

Shannon Mayhew

I hold a Bachelors degree from Radford University in Dance.  Staying physically fit was always a big part of my life, especially with dancing.  I am certified through the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA) in personal training.  I have been certified for 3 years.  My true love for fitness and wanting to help others in their journey started after my second child was born.  I realized then that I needed to get myself healthier for my family in order to take care of them better.  I love helping others who want to become healthier but are not sure where to start. Along with personal training, I also teach the early morning HIIT class on Monday and Wednesday.  I enjoy putting together workouts that uses weight lifting, plyometrics, cardio, core training, and balance training, I believe it's important to change up the workouts in order to keep the body guessing and avoiding a plateau.

Angela Fontaine

My journey towards health began in college as a biology major & received my Bachelors degree from Hofstra University in NY. I was a stay at home mom for many years & have had a keen interest in natural & alternative health. I've combined that interest with my newly found career in fitness as a certified personal trainer through NASM. My hearts desire is to motivate & encourage others to never give up & find hope where it once seemingly had been lost. I am an individual with a passion for life which is too short to be wasted & would love to pass that on to my clients to motivate them to keep fit so they can enjoy life to its fullest in a healthy body.

I am a Certified Personal Trainer through the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA) and have been certified since 2013.  I also have 10 years of experience teaching fitness classes.  I have taught a little bit of everything including Pilates, Strength training, HIIT, Spinning, Floor Aerobics, SilverSneakers, and Step.  My favorite classes are Pilates, SilverSneakers, and Spinning!

I am native to North Carolina and grew up in Raleigh.  I have been married since August, 1999 and have two children.   I have B.A. in Communication Studies from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and a M.A. in Christian Education from Asbury Theological Seminary in Kentucky.  I have been an avid fitness enthusiast for as long as I can remember.  I played soccer for 7 years as a child and currently enjoy running for my personal exercise.  In January 2017 I made a goal for myself to run one 5k or 10k each month of the year!  I thoroughly enjoy working with clients, teaching classes, and motivating others.  I also love to learn new things!  My philosophy is that exercise should be fun and incorporated into daily activity!  I have worked with clients of various ages and stages of life.
