The Y is a place where you can work toward that balance by challenging yourself to learn a new skill or hobby, fostering connections with friends through our lifelong learning programs, or bringing your loved ones closer together through our many family-centered activities.
At the Y, it’s not about the activity you choose as much as it is about the benefits of living healthier on the inside as well as the outside.
Schedule your Orientation
A FREE equipment orientation is offered to all members. Equipment orientation includes instructions to use the fitness equipment in the Cardio and Weight Resistance rooms safely and effectively. Gentle Yoga for People Living with Cancer
Gentle Yoga is intended to increase physical, mental and spiritual well-being through the practice of gentle, restorative poses and relaxation techniques.
Research suggests that yoga may:
- Enhance quality of life by relieving stress and anxiety
- Combat the side effects of treatment, especially fatigue and depression
- Boost energy levels and appetite
This free program for cancer patients & survivors has been made possible through a grant from the CarolinaEast Foundation and Twin Rivers YMCA. Members and Non-Members welcome.
Classes are held Thursdays 4:30-6:00pm.
Whether you are brand new to fitness or a veteran wellness seeker looking for new workout ideas, YMCA Personal Trainers are trained and certified to provide you with safe and effective workouts. Your Personal Trainer will develop a workout program specifically designed to help you attain your fitness goals.
Small Group Classes
Small Group Classes are designed to give participants more individualized attention in a fun group setting. With class sizes being no larger than 8 participants, our certified group fitness instructors can tailor the workouts to meet the needs of the group. Various classes are offered throughout the year.
Special Needs Zumba
Special Needs Zumba® helps children and adults of all abilities benefit from physical fitness and group interaction.
Students and mentors are encouraged to participate together. This fun social party-like workout is appropriate for both male and female individuals with all forms of physical and mental special needs. Modifications and progressions will be provided. This program is absolutely free to all TWIN RIVERS YMCA members and non-members. Please come dressed in non-restrictive workout attire. Closed toe gym shoes are required to participate.
Participants will meet on Wednesdays from 5:00-5:45pm. Participants will meet in the Multi-Purpose room and class will be led by our licensed Zumba® Instructor, April Daniels.
Tai Chi Workshops
Various Tai Chi Workshops are offered throughout the year. Tai Chi Workshops are led by Jan Kendrick.
TAI CHI EASY: Relax and stress down with us as we learn simplified movements that can be easily performed and enjoyed by beginners and appreciated by more experinced Tai Chi players. This workshop will consist of a series of 8 weekly classes that will lead you through mediation, vitality movements, breathing exercises, and learning the individual Tai Chi moves. It will incorporate Tai Chi walking, culminating in putting the Tai Chi Easy moves together into a walking, flowing sequence. At the end of this workshop, you will be able to perform the Tai Chi Easy form. No experience necessary.
Teen Certification is for teens ages 12-15 years old. Teens will learn the appropriate knowledge, skills and abilities to properly use the cardio equipment and the resistance machines.
This does not allow teens under 16 to use the free weight room.
Teen Certification meets the Second Thursday of every month at 5:30pm.
Special daytime classes offered during summer and school breaks.

Women on Weights
An introduction to weight lifting for women! WOW is designed to be a small group class to help women feel comfortable lifting weights and using the machines in the Free Weight Room. Weight lifting is great for womens’ bone and muscle development, yet many women don’t know where to begin. This 4 week class will teach women proper form and technique, weight room etiquette, and how to design a workout. There will also be opportunities to try some of the exercises during this instructional class.
